This Is What 47 Billion Light Years Looks Like

Astronomers often use very large numbers, and it is often difficult to imagine, let alone visualize, what 47 billion light years might look like. In the year 2003, the Hubble Space Telescope focused in and looked at a rather boring and seemingly empty stretch of deep space for eleven days straight. In the span of a little less than two weeks, light traveling from some of the furthest reaches of the universe collected on Hubble's image sensor to produce what some have called "the most important photograph ever taken."
