Julius and Ethel Rosenberg

For the first time in its 177-year history, a United States Civil Court had decreed and followed through on the execution of two Americans on the charges of espionage. On June 19, 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed at Sing Sing Correctional Facility after being convicted of selling U.S. top secret plans for building a nuclear bomb to the Soviet Union. The execution of the two communists came at a time when the United States was the only country in the world with the knowledge and resources to build nuclear weapons.
